Garbage is Coming to Burlington

Garbage is coming to Burlington . . . the movie, that is…on Tuesday, November 10, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Miller Community and Recreation Center , 130 Gosse Court , Burlington .

In “Garbage! The Revolution Starts at Home,” filmmaker Andrew Nisker takes you on what he calls a “trash odyssey.” He asked an average North American family – the McDonalds – to keep their garbage for three months. Dry, wet, organic, inorganic, everything was kept in their garage. Predictably, the experiment ends up smelly, sometimes difficult and sometimes humorous, for the McDonald family. Unpredictably, you begin to understand the impact of waste. The film investigates where it goes, from sewage systems to landfills, and how it gets there. The film is rated “G” for general audiences (best for age 12 through adult).

Join your neighbors for this FREE family-friendly, trash-free evening with a movie, popcorn, cider. Remember to bring your own reusable cup and bowl for free local popcorn and cider, so you can be eligible for a chance to win raffle prizes, including a Soilsaver backyard compost bin (retail value of the Soilsaver is about $100!). This FREE event is sponsored by Burlington Parks and Recreation, Chittenden Solid Waste District (CSWD), and Vermont Earth Institute (VEI).

For more info: contact Burlington Parks and Recreation at 863-0420, or CSWD at 872-8111.
